MOBILTEX has introduced the CorTalk RMU1 LITE, a device that enables pipeline operators to quickly and easily automate the collection and transmission of potential pipe-to-soil measurement data from Cathodic Protection (CP) test stations at virtually any location

The company added that the CorTalk RMU1 LITE is derived from the CorTalk RMU1 device and is an ideal solution for cost-effectively achieving high-volume deployment at CP test stations and empowering corrosion engineers to leverage industrial internet of things (IIoT) remote monitoring.

The CorTalk RMU1 LITE, which is powered by batteries, transmits data through cellular or satellite networks, eliminating the need to physically visit CP test stations to obtain annual pipe-to-soil potential measurements. Test stations are often located in remote, hard to reach sites, exposing technicians to hazards in isolated locations, mountainous regions, swamps, right-of-way airports or trains, high-voltage infrastructure, and more.

As regulations continue to expand, pipeline operators will be increasingly scrutinised to prove that their infrastructure is adequately protected and remains within operational budgets – the future of regulatory compliance is the RMU1 LITE.

The CorTalk RMU1 LITE offers user-selectable intervals, greatly increasing the amount of automatically collected pipe-to-soil data.

This capability can be used by pipeline operators to collect multiple measurements throughout the year, providing a richer set of data to understand seasonal variations and short-term operating irregularities that can negatively impact the performance of CP systems.

CEO Marc Bracken said, “Millions of CP test stations are installed on pipeline assets throughout North America and much of the data is only collected annually in a time-consuming, manual process.

MOBILTEX developed the CorTalk RMU1 LITE to bring pipe-to-soil potential measurement into the IIoT world with a fit-for-purpose design and an affordable price for large-scale deployment. Benefits are realised in many areas including safety, operational efficiency, and providing engineers access to a much richer and complete dataset in order to improve CP performance and, ultimately, better protect assets and infrastructure. We are confident pipeline operators will quickly see tremendous value with an investment in CorTalk RMU1 LITE devices.”

CorView, a cloud-based software platform, receives and stores data transmitted by the RMU1 LITE and other remote monitoring devices from MOBILTEX.

CorView provides measurement data, creates trend graphs and reports, and sends alerts automatically if the measurements received from the RMU1 LITE are outside set thresholds or if the data are not received at scheduled intervals.
