Oil and gas services firm Royal Niger Emerging Technologies has awarded offshore technology provider JDR a fast-track contract for the manufacture of an umbilical offshore deepwater oilfield in Nigeria
Abo is the West African country’s first deepwater oilfield located in the southeastern part of oil mining lease (OML) 125, about 55 km off the coast in water depths up to 780 metres.
JDR’s CEO Pat Herbert said, “We are very happy to be a part of this deepwater project. This is a testament to our umbilical engineering and manufacture strength and we hope this project is one of many in West Africa.”
The 1.55 km hybrid of steel tube and thermoplastic umbilical would connect an existing subsea distribution unit (SDU) to a new well through the use of two umbilical termination units (UTA), JDR said.
The umbilical, designed to include a combination of hydraulic control and chemical hoses, low voltage signal cables and a central bundle of steel tube chemical supply lines, is set to be delivered to the Abo field within Q1 2015.
JDR would manufacture and load-out the umbilical on a 9.2-metre installation reel from their deep-water, quayside facility in the UK.
