US-based Capstone Turbine Corporation has announced that it has been awarded an order to supply microturbines for an offshore oil and gas platform in Africa
A company official said that the company has received an order for two C1000s microturbines, which will run on flare gas to power the artificial lift.
Jim Crouse, executive vice-president of Capstone Turbine Corporation, said, “We are delighted to see the further expansion of our footprint in the African oil and gas market.”
Africa’s oil reserves accounted for 10 per cent of the world in 2012, or roughly 130bn barrels. The country is also expected to consume 4.5mn bpd by the year 2020. These facts highlight the large demand for oil and gas in Africa, the official added.
