Offshore marine geotechnical service provider Benthic has been awarded a contract by a subsidiary of Anardarko Petroleum Corporation to conduct a deepwater geotechnical survey offshore Mozambique

Benthic officials confirmed that the PROD (Portable Remotely Operated Drill), operating onboard the multipurpose supply vessel (MPSV) Jaya Vigilant, will perform rotary rock coring and piston coring in water depths up to 2,500 metres in the Golfinho gas field. The project follows the initial geotechnical investigation that Benthic executed at the field earlier this year.

In addition, an extensive programme comprising a cone penetrometer, ball penetrometer, seismic probe and pore pressure dissipation tests, is also being planned, said officials from Benthic. Transportation logistics and laboratory testing will be also coordinated by the company during offshore operations.

Greg Fyffe, vice president of operations at Benthic, said, “We are pleased that PROD’s proven superior performance in the ultra deepwater geologies in Mozambique in 2014 has given us the opportunity to deliver another successful project for Anadarko in 2015.”

Benthic will begin mobilisation on the Jaya Vigilant in January 2015.
