To demonstrate the level of support the Nigerian content development has garnered from the federal government, Sylva Timipre, minister of state for petroleum emphasised the importance government attaches to ensuring that there is in-country capacity development in all segments of the oil and gas industry

At the NIPS award Dinner, Timipre Sylva in his speech noted that the awards represent the contribution of the awardees to the growth and development of the Nigerian oil and gas industry.

“The oil and gas industry is the mainstay of the Nigerian economy and anyone who is awarded recognition is being recognised by Nigeria as a country,” he remarked.

The executive secretary Mr Simbi Wabote of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), who presented the award to MG Vowgas said he was not surprised that MG Vowgas was recognised as it has worked very hard to put in place facilities that can do many jobs that were previously done abroad.

This also did not come a surprise to many industry stakeholders in the Nigerian oil and gas sector when the ASME, ISO 9001:201 and 45001:2018 certified indigenous EPIC company was awarded as the Local Content Company of the Year, by the organiser of the recently held third Nigeria International Petroleum Summit, NIPS.

9Speaking on the importance of the award to its operations and processes, the group managing director, Godwin Izomor said, “This is another testament to not just our competence, it is also a worthy recognition of our continuous demonstration of the workability of the Nigerian Content Act in the oil and gas sector.

“The positive impacts we have been making through our corporate activities and world class service delivery have shown the business world what an indigenous Nigerian company can achieve when supported with enabling laws and policies. This award is also seen as another challenge to MG Vowgas to continue to improve on the quality service delivery on which we have built our corporate reputation and sustain the level of local content input in our operations. We are proud to be recipient of this award.”

Passionate about playing a role in the actualisation of the Federal Government’s policy of reducing capital flight and building indigenous competence through the implementation on the Nigeria Content law, the management of MG Vowgas partnering with the Research and Development Bureau of the Ministry of Defence has fabricated the first made in Nigeria ballistic airboat which is awaiting official commissioning by the Federal Government’s Ministry of Defence.

Proud of what the MG Vowgas has achieved, its visionary group managing director said, “The building of ballistic airboat locally is a landmark project which MG Vowgas is proud to have used its fabrication yard to execute. The Chief of Defence Staff of Nigeria was here some weeks ago and this locally assembled airboat was tested in his presence and he was very satisfied with the quality of work we have done. Apart from the building airboat, we are strengthening our collaboration with the R&D Bureau of the Ministry for other projects.

“As a patriotic organisation, MG Vowgas is also looking for more opportunities for us to prove to the policy makers and stakeholders that more of the fabricated works that are still being executed abroad can be effectively done in-country.”

Running its operations with more than 98 per cent team of diverse and experienced Nigerian professionals, MG Vowgas is also a recipient of the International Safety Award for 2019 from the British Safety Council in pursuance of its corporate vision, the company’s fabrication yard is gradually raising the bar of efficiency among the indigenous companies operating in the oil and gas sector in Nigeria today.

With various installed High-tech equipment’s that reduces timelines for even difficult jobs, MG Vowgas has positions itself and also perfected arrangements for the fabrication of modular refinery and boilers for refineries and oil companies.

Fabricating modular refinery will go a long way to solve the problems of raising foreign exchange for promoters of modular refineries in the country.

The MG Vowgas fabrication yard marks a new dawn in local content development in Nigeria as it has invested on multifunctional facility which cut across diverse sectors for diverse forms fabrication in-country. The facility at the fabrication yard will convince the international oil companies that never believe that indigenous service companies can do great and complex works that meet international standards, analysts also said international oil companies (IOC’s) will now have no excuse to carry their jobs outside the shores of Nigeria.
