Oil and gas explorer Invictus Energy has requested the Zimbabwean government to expand its exploration claims in Muzarabani by 10-fold
Currently, the firm is exploring oil on a 100, 000-ha special grant in the Zambezi Valley. According to Invictus, the increase in its exploration fields is expected to be crucial as it progresses with the landmark deal. If the request is approved, it is set to take its oilfields to about one million hectares.
At the Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe annual general meeting in Harare, Invictus Energy technical director Brent Barber told delegates that the country should increase its oil and gas exploration portfolio.
As reported in News Day, Barber said, “Our current space is drastically reducing the commercial component of it. At the moment we have not made any discovery.”
Responding this, the mines deputy minister Polite Kambamura replied that the government should discuss on the issue of more land.
Apart from this, the Zimbabwean government has undertook to extend a tax relief as it takes bold steps to make its first find in the southern African country, the source added.
