International Container Terminal Services (ICTSI) has signed a contract with Port Autonome de Kribi (PAK) to develop, operate and maintain the Kribi Multipurpose Terminal (KMT) in Cameroon

KMT, a subsidiary of ICTSI, is now the official multi-purpose terminal concessionaire for the next 25 years, with the signing of the deal.

Hans-Ole Madsen, ICTSI senior vice-president and regional head for Europe, Middle East and Africa, thanked the Government of Cameroon and PAK for placing their trust in ICTSI. “ICTSI is very proud to partner with Cameroon and the Port of Kribi in operation and development of the Kribi Multipurpose Terminal,” he added.

KMT is a newly built deep-water harbour situated 150 km south of Douala. Phase 1 consists of a 10 hectare yard and 265 + 63 meters of berth. Phase 2 will provide a further 350 m of berth and 23 hectares of yard. The port of Kribi is surrounded by the Kribi Industrial Zone, a 262 sq km region built to accommodate new industrial and logistical developments in support of the rising economy of Cameroon.

“Our purpose as a company is to make the Port of Kribi a driver for positive and sustainable growth. Thus ICTSI will work diligently to partner the Cameroonian business community by providing efficient and safe port services. Our services will act as a catalyst for Cameroons foreign trade and we will actively promote the Kribi Logistic Corridor – encompassing Cameroon, Chad, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon – an area home to more than 50mn people.We already have a team on the ground – headed by Kathy Magne – and we expect to be fully operational within the next couple of months,” Madsden stated.

KMT is designed to handle multi-purpose shipping services, including roro, project and heavy lift freight, forestry goods, dry bulk and other general cargo, and to provide oil and gas support services. KMT has 16 m of deep water access and is fitted with handling equipment including two mobile port cranes, delivering 1.5 million tonnes of annual capacity.

ICTSI will continue to invest in the infrastructure and superstructure of KMT and the port will double in size by 2024. Additional modern handling equipment, storage facilities and modern IT platforms will be part of the expansion.
