Ibom Power Company has announced that its power plant has started receiving gas from the Uquo Field in Nigeria’s Oil Mining Lease (OML) 13
Unnamed sources at Ibom Power Company said, “We are wheeling 100MW into the Nigerian power grid.”
The company is located in Uyo, capital city of Akwa Ibom, one of Nigeria’s oil and gas producing states. The delivery was made possible due to the completion of repairs on the 120MW Frame 9, largest turbine in the station, sources added.
Both the gas field and the plant are located in the south eastern Niger Delta Basin.
It is reportedly a year since the Uquo Gas processing plant has been ready, but the power station had been unable to receive the fuel as all the three turbines of the plant have been down for most of the period.
Ibom Power Company, owned by the Akwa Ibom state government, has been maintaining the plant since the commissioning in 2010. Sources that the company is now considering signing an operation and maintenance contract with GE, the manufacturers of the turbines.
