Eni has announced that it has discovered oil and gas at the Nene’ Marine exploration prospect located in Marine XII Block offshore DR Congo
With two well drilled so far, the company has estimated the total oil and gas volume present at around 600mn barrels of oil and 20bn cubic metres of gas respectively.
The discovery was made through the well Nene’ Marine 1, drilled in 24 metres of water, to a depth of 3,013 metres. The well encountered a significant wet gas and light oil accumulation in the pre-saline clastic sequence of Lower Cretaceous age.
Nene’ Marine 2 well was drilled two kilometers away from Nene’ Marine 1 and confirmed the significant hydrocarbon accumulation and the continuity of the reservoir, Eni added.
During production tests both the wells flowed at a commercial rates oil at 37 degree API gravity.
Eni, through its subsidiary Eni Congo SA, is the operator of Marine XII block with a 65 per cent stake. NewAge owns 25 per cent stake with state-owned company Societé Nationale des Pétroles du Congo (SNPC) owning a 10 per cent stake.
