“The Cormoran-1 well encountered generally thin but good quality, gas-bearing, sands between 3376 metres and 3711 metres,” according to Dana's partner Tullow Oil.

It said that during testing of one of the four separate gas columns, the well flowed at stabilised rates of between 22 mcfd and 24 mcfd.

The well, on the Cormoran prospect, which lies two kilometres south of the Pelican-1 gas discovery well, was drilled by the Maersk Deliverer semi-submersible drilling rig.

Dana holds a 36 per cent stake in the licence with partners GDF Suez (27.85 per cent) Tullow (16.20 per cent) C Mauritania I (15 per cent) and Roc Oil (4.95 per cent).
