TotalEnergies and SONATRACH has reached a Memorandum of Understanding on a hydrocarbon contract in the north-east Timimoun region in Algeria

Finalised as per Law n°19-13 that governs hydrocarbon activities, the MoU outlines a work programme for the appraisal and development of gas resources in the region in such a way so that it doesn't disrupt the existing processing facilities for production from the Timimoun field.

The programme is also designed with sustainability in mind, emphasising cost-cutting and emissions-reduction approaches.

Expanding strategic partnership

"This Memorandum of Understanding reflects our shared willingness to expand our strategic partnership with SONATRACH," said Julien Pouget, senior vice president - Middle East and North Africa, exploration and production at TotalEnergies.

Recently, TotalEnergies extended its LNG contract with SONATRACH till 2025 to access 2 mn tonnes of LNG for France and Europe. The substantial gas resources will be hitting the port of Fos-Cavaou, near Marseille, next year. After this development, the MoU further strengthens the oil major's relationship with Algeria's national oil company.
