US-based oil firm Hess Corporation has made its seventh oil find offshore Ghana

The oil explorer announced the discovery on 28 February 2013 saying that it has completed drilling at the Pecan North-1 well on the Deepwater Tano/Cape Three Points (DWCTP) block offshore Ghana.

Hess said in a statement, “The Pecan North-1 well, located approximately seven miles northeast of the Pecan-1 well, encountered approximately 12.19 metres of net oil pay in Turonian aged reservoir.”

According to the company, the wells were drilled in a range of water depths between 1.5 metres and 2.4 metres.

The company now has plans to submit appraisal plans for the various discoveries to the Ghana government for approval on or before 2 June 2013.

Hess, which holds 90 per cent working interest in the DWCTP, added that it has begun pre-development studies on the block. The energy company is also the operator of the block.
