Eni has announced that it has gained operatorship of the Ngolo block onshore Congo-Brazzaville’s Cuvette Basin

The Italian energy company said it would work through its Congolese subsidiary, National Oil Company of Congo, during exploration of the Ngolo block to explore the hydrocarbon potential of the basin.

“The Cuvette Basin, so far little explored, is one of the new themes of frontier exploration in Africa,” the company said.

The block is located approximately 350km northeast from the capital Brazzaville and covers an area of more than 16,000 sq km.

Exploration activities will take place over a period of 10 years and will target the Mesozoic and Paleozoic sedimentary geological sequences, Eni added.
