The South Sudan Oil & Power (SSOP) 2023 conference and exhibition is taking place in Juba from 14-16 June
This year’s summit will reaffirm South Sudan’s position as the nexus for East African energy cooperation.
Now in its sixth edition and taking place under the theme, ‘The Engine of East African Growth’, SSOP 2023 invites investors to explore and engage with opportunities across the upstream, midstream, mining, power generation, distribution, services, and infrastructure sectors. Organised by Energy Capital & Power in official partnership with South Sudan’s Ministry of Petroleum, the SSOP 2023 conference and exhibition will be where deals are made, and industries are built.
The director general of finance, services and administration of South Sudan’s national oil and gas company Nilepet, Matiok Santino Akuei, will participate on the event’s finance panel this year. Among other topics, Akuei will discuss the opportunities for regional expansion and strategies for raising capital together with the IFC; Kush Bank; AEICORP; the Trade and Development Bank; Stanbic Bank and Afrexim.
Gbite Falade, CEO and managing director of oil and gas investment company, Niger Delta Exploration & Production (NDEP), will be demonstrating NDEP’s commitment to technical development and oilfield innovations in East Africa.
NDEP’s ongoing relationship with South Sudan has resulted in the optimisation of crude oil production and the commercialisation of gas through the implementation of gas production, processing, distribution, and sales projects, thus resulting in an increased volume of net crude oil production.
The Egyptian Embassy in South Sudan – which will be attending SSOP alongside Mohamed Shaker El-Markabi, Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy – continues to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries, advancing cooperation across the oil, gas and infrastructure fields.
Ayed S Al-Qahtani, director of the research division for the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), will participate as a speaker to facilitate engagement with international energy leaders while improving regional cooperation; creating cross-border fuel security and stability; and bolstering investment in the mid- and downstream sectors.
“South Sudan is entering a new stage of its growth and development. Global partners like the US, UK, China, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Norway, Egypt, Turkey and others are reassessing opportunities in the country based on energy market needs and conditions on the ground. SSOP 2023 will connect South Sudan to regional and global stakeholders, taking that early interest forward into tangible, industry-advancing deals. We are honoured to return to Juba for a sixth edition that promises to deliver new deals, new investments and new relationships,” said Laila Bastati, managing director of the Energy Capital & Power, while announcing the sixth edition of the event.
