This year’s Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) will highlight on the importance of gas and its increasing use to generate hydrocarbon power in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region
Focusing on the increasingly important role of gas in the energy mix as well as the Middle East’s oil industry, the 16th edition of ADIPEC will take place from 10-13 November 2013 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) under the patronage of HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of the UAE.
The event is supported by the Ministry of Energy, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Currently, the MENA region is home to more than 52 per cent of the world’s proven oil reserves and 42 per cent of the world’s proven gas reserves, according to official data. Natural gas has been considered a cleaner alternative to coal as a fuel for energy production.
Mohammed A Sahoo AlSuwaidi, chairman of ADIPEC 2013, said, “Amid rapid growth in energy demands across the region, gas offers a cheaper, cleaner and abundant solution to our energy supply chain challenges. We believe it is the right time to address the needs of the burgeoning gas sector given the need to diversify our energy mix and cater to domestic demand.
“ADNOC has invested nearly US$40bn in oil, gas, refining and petrochemical projects of which US$25bn is dedicated to gas. This is a reflection not just of a regional trend but of a global one towards gas as a source fuel for energy and its importance to the future of the UAE along with oil, nuclear and renewables.”
ADIPEC conference will also examine the emerging role of gas as a primary energy source in the region, in addition to other critical topics. With focus on retrieving shale gas and oil, and a string of significant recent finds, shale’s potential will come under review at this year’s conference, event sources said.
ADIPEC is also likely to examine the challenge of inspiring youth to enter the oil and gas sector through the launch of ‘Young ADIPEC’.
The programme will include a three-phase approach to engaging and inspiring young students to understand the industry. It is expected to bridge the knowledge-gap through focused field trips culminating at ADIPEC where youngsters will experience the full value and supply chain.
