INDUSTRIAL CLEANING AND environmental waste management specialist, the MSIS Group, has secured a US$480,000 contract with Ocean Rig in Ghana – the first with the drilling company
The project, which will be delivered by MSIS West Africa, involves ultra high pressure (UHP) cleaning and the re-coating of equipment from the Eirik Raude drilling rig. The work will be carried out onshore in Takoradi, and is expected to take two to three months to complete.
The contract win underlines the focused international growth strategy of the MSIS Group, which has targeted Ghana as an emerging and fast growing market.
The company has transferred additional equipment – including FPSO cleaning and High pressure jetting equipment – to Ghana, highlighting its long term commitment to the region.
As well as the cleaning and re-coating of risers, the contract will involve cleaning and re-painting flotation track modules.
Existing presence
The company’s existing presence in Ghana was a key factor in being awarded the contract, according to Chris Lloyd, Chairman of the MSIS Group.
“We are able to provide Ocean Rig with an all encompassing service, which addresses all aspects of this project, from supplying painters to looking after waste disposal,” he said.
“Our knowledge of the local market and the contacts we have built up help us to manage and provide a complete service for Ocean Rig for all the elements of this job.
The establishment of MSIS West Africa has provided a base for MSIS’ expansion in the region and, according to Mr Lloyd, the latest contract win is testimony to the success of this strategy.
“Ghana provides a stable environment, with excellent facilities and services from which we can grow our business. It also has good links to neighbouring West African countries, such as the Ivory Coast and Nigeria, which boast a thriving oil and gas sector,” he said.
“We have a very targeted growth strategy in place at MSIS, focusing on key international markets. As well as West Africa, we are also concentrating on the North Sea, Norway and Brazil and are continually looking to further increase our presence in these regions.
“The Ocean Rig contract in Ghana is our first with the company and we are looking forward to building our relationship with them.”
