Sonangol has awarded a project management contract to KBR for the design and construction of the Lobito Refinery in Angola

Under the terms of the contract, KBR will provide engineering, procurement and construction services to the new 200,000bpd-capacity refinery.

Angola is looking towards the Lobito Refinery Project as an important driver of job creation and economic independence. Once completed, Angola's fuel production capacity can go up by 200%.

This new contract win from Sonangol follows KBR's successful implemention of the FEED phase of the project last year, the design of which required 30% less water consumption. The service provider has aligned its latest solutions with energy transition practices and advanced emission standards required in the industry, which was evident in its innovative designing of the refinery's cooling system.

"We are excited to be a part of this important project and to continue to grow and maintain a substantial presence in the region," said Jay Ibrahim, president, Sustainable Technology Solutions. "This win is indicative of KBR's strategic commitment to offer differentiated technical services that support Angola's sustainable development goals."
