Kenyan gas-station operator and fuel importer, Gulf Power, has revealed plans to build an 80 MW power plant fed by heavy fuel oil
The site in Athi River, 25 km from Nairobi, is due to be completed by July 2013 according to Gulf Power's chief financial officer, Abubakar Ali.
Gulf Power entered a 20-year power purchase agreement last year with Kenya Power Ltd, the sole electricity distributor, Bloomberg quoted Ali as saying.
The company was the biggest private importer of fuel products in Kenya by volume in 2010 and 2011 said Ali. Kenya currently has no oil or gas reserves in commercial production.
