In an unfortunate development in Nigeria, one person died and three other went missing following the collapse of a drilling rig

Seplat Energy has clarified that contrary to some media reports, the Majestic rig is owned by Depthwize Nigeria Limited and not Seplat. The rig was in transit to its next drill location at Ovhor. Seplat is the operator of OMLs 4, 38 & 41 on behalf of the NNPCEPL/SEPLAT Joint Venture.

The company had shared that of the 96 crew members aboard, 92 have been successfully accounted for and confirmed safe. “Tragically, one fatality occurred during the incident, while three other rig personnel are still missing, raising concerns about their well-being.”

Seplat Energy has promptly initiated emergency response and rescue efforts in coordination with the rig’s owner and local authorities as well. These collaborative operations are currently underway at the site of the incident, with a singular priority: the safety and well-being of those directly impacted and their families.

“We will provide further details as our understanding of the incident develops. A detailed investigation into the cause of the accident will follow,” added Seplat.
