Following the introduction of the Local Content Bill passed in 2010, local content and capacity building are now at the forefront of planning amongst major stakeholders in Nigeria.

In response, the NOGTech 2011, two-day technical conference to run in Lagos, 7-8 June will focus on the repositioning of Nigeria’s oil and gas technology, utilisation and commercialisation, with a special round table session on the role Universities will play in shaping oil and gas industry.

Discussions

For the first time Honorable Sam Ode, Minister of State, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Engr Ernest Nwapa, Ag Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development & Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and Engr Abbas H Imam, Deputy Director – Department of Academic Standards from National Universities Commission will come together in a pioneering round table discussion with seven other leading oil and gas professionals to discuss building human capital.

The debate will look in depth at the role Universities play in providing the next generation of engineers to the industry, the training that will be needed, investment required into the sector and how this will be made possible in light of the new local content bill. This break through session will stands to create vast interest amongst the oil and gas and universities sectors in coming together in collaboration and identifying the fundamental tasks that need addressing in the sector.

The National University Commission recently gave their endorsement to NOGTech which will allow the students under the arm of their universities to be given an insight, meet and be taught the vast operations of Nigeria’s main industry by its leading professionals, and also present white papers in the Open Theatre in the exhibition hall.

NOGTech 2011 will be also looking in-depth and exploring the vast possibilities and capabilities of the market and what technology can be introduced to help utilise Nigeria’s vast gas reserves. NOGTech is to expected to become the biggest platform to appraise current industry practices, provide an insight into the next steps in technology advancements and network with high level officials.

Nigeria Oil & Gas Technology Conference  is the technology forum for Nigeria's oil and gas industry and this year will feature more than 30 prestigious speakers including H.E. Elder Godsay Orubebe, Honourable Minister fo Niger Delta Affairs, Dr Emmanuel O Egbogah, OONDr Emmanuel O Egbogah, P Eng OON has over 36 years of diversified geological and petroleum engineering experience in consulting, teaching and research & development, project planning and implementation in Canada, North America, Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia.

He is a Distinguished Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers International (SPEI) a Member of the Petroleum Society of Canada, American Society of Engineering Education, International Society for Rock Mechanics and New York Academy of Sciences. Dr Egbogah started his oil and gas industry career with Phillips Petroleum Canada, served as Technical Advisor and Technology Custodian for Petronas Malaysia. In Libya, he was the Enhanced Oil Recovery Advisor for the Libyan National Oil Corporation.

History

He was the Senior Consultant and Vice President Engineering for Applied Geoscience and Technology Consultants Limited, Alberta, Canada. He was Vice President Engineering for Amerigo International in both Calgary and Houston, and Vice President International Production for Niko Resources Ltd, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Dr Egbogah is the current Director, Africa Region for SPEI.

He is currently serving as Special Adviser to the President on Petroleum Matters, Federal Republic of Nigeria., Special Adviser to the President on Petroleum Matters, M A Fiddi, NAPIMS’ Group General Manager and Eng Andrew Yakubu, NNPC’s Group Executive Director - Exploration & Production to name a few.
