Kosmos Energy wins Concordia 2018 P3 Impact Award

Kosmos Innovation Center (KIC), led by Kosmos Energy, in partnership with DAI global and Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology, won the international Concordia P3 Impact Award

KIC had been nominated for the award for training more than 280 young people, launching nine new AgriTech startups, and driving over US$1mn external co-investment in Ghana since 2016.

Through its flagship innovation programme, the AgriTech challenge, KIC had provided an annual cohort of around 100 Ghanaian youth with business training, mentorship, and market research tours.

Over the course of the programme, KIC entrepreneurs formed teams and build technology-based business concepts that tackle challenges across various agricultural value chains in Ghana.

One team that has found success from a previous KIC AgriTech challenge is Trotro Tractor. The company provides a mobile platform that connects farmers who don’t have mechanised equipment of their own with local tractor operators in what has been billed as “Uber for tractors.”

TroTro Tractor currently has more than 30,000 farmers on its database. They have also raised US$252,500 grants from British Council Alliance for Green Revolution and Africa (AGRA). Their revenue is expected to be 10.9mn Ghana cedi (US$2.5 million) by 2022.

The P3 Impact Award is a partnership between three organisations including Concordia, a non-profit dedicated to fostering, elevating, and sustaining cross-sector partnerships for social impact, the University of Virginia Darden School Of Business and the US State Department.
