Focus on East Africa’s energy potential at RECS: East summit in March

The third Regional Energy Co-operation Summit (RECS): East will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 27-29 March 2019, co-located with the Africa Energy Forum: Off the Grid, highlighting solutions for the future of energy in Africa

With endorsement from the Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy of Ethiopia, the meeting is co-hosted with the World Bank Group.

Regional energy leaders will gather in Ethiopia to expedite energy integration and provide updates for the sector at a time of major transformations.

East Africa is endowed with opportunities for bringing substantial natural resources to the market and for delivering regional infrastructure and energy access. Under the theme ‘How Anchor Projects in the Region Can Unlock Finance, Energy and Infrastructure Projects for the Private Sector,’ the RECS: East is set to gather private and public sector stakeholders to discuss on-going projects and region’s potential for growth.

During the two-days in Addis Ababa, the government of Ethiopia will launch an update to the national electrification programme (NEP), which was first launched in November 2017.

The update is expected to reflect on the progress achieved, as well as detailing how the country plans to achieve universal energy access by 2025 using a sector-wide, on-grid and off-grid integrated approach.
