Churchill to exhibit stuck pipe solution and downhole circulation products at EGYPS

Churchill Drilling Tools, a global oilfield service company specialising in drilling innovation, will be showcasing the HyPR HoleSaver, DAV MX CircSub and Churchill’s other industry leading downhole circulation tools at the Egypt Petroleum Show (EGYPS) in Cairo from 11-13 February

Egypt is just one of a number of new territories that Churchill has penetrated in the last few months following unprecedented operator’s demand for its stuck pipe solution, the HyPR HoleSaver™.

In 2019, five drilling teams from four major operators across the globe activated the HyPR™.All successfully cut their drill-strings in a matter of hours, a 100 per cent success rate. They also avoided the use of traditional stuck pipe solutions such as explosives or chemicals, which require additional equipment, personnel and logistics. One UAE operator severed its drill-string in a record-breaking 60 minutes, after getting stuck due to heavy losses.

As a result, operators are increasingly adopting the HyPR as their primary contingency against stuck pipe. The technology has already been described by clients as ‘revolutionary, ground-breaking’ and a ‘game changer for managing stuck pipe’.

Keen to run a stuck pipe solution, a major multi-national operator ran two HyPR tools for added contingency as part of its drilling campaign offshore Egypt, in the Mediterranean. It also ran a DAV MX™ CircSub to regain circulation in the event of a pack off situation. Also in the string were a Churchill Float and Drop In Check Valve both of which provide a high quality barrier against kicks and other unplanned events. Five Churchill tools in the string, providing solutions for the operator across a multitude of applications, marked a record-breaking entry to the Egyptian market.

Severed pipe post HyPR CutStewart Macindoe, Churchill’s sales director, said, “The success of the HyPR HoleSaver has helped unlock a number of new markets, and importantly, Egypt, which we see as key to sustaining our rapid growth. That one of our key Egyptian clients ran five Churchill tools in its string reflects the growing confidence we’re seeing across the globe in our technology.”

Speaking about the impact of the HyPR Holesaver, Stewart added, “Stuck pipe usually halts drilling operations until the pipe can be freed – adding millions of dollars to the cost of a drilling campaign. Operators no longer need to incur days or even weeks of delay while specialist equipment and personnel are mobilised. The HyPR now enables operators to sever their drill-string in a matter of hours, which means drilling teams can get back on track quickly and safely at low cost.”
