Fairstar Heavy Transport, has won a US$2.6mn contract for the transport of jack up drilling rig, Hercules 185

Under the deal, Dutch shipping company, Fairstar, will transfer the Hercules Offshore rig from its current location in Pascagoula, Mississippi, US, to West Africa in the first quarter of 2012. The company will use its open stern, semi-submersible vessel Fjell.

Fairstar client services group leader Chris Muilwijk said the vessel had transported the rig to Pascagoula earlier in 2011. “Our crew on board the Fjell is committed to returning the rig to West Africa in 2012 safely and securely,” he said.

According to Fairstar, the vessel is on its way to Malta, to load the Northern Offshore rig Energy Exerter before leaving it in Northern Europe, then making its way to the Gulf of Mexico to load the Hercules 185.
