Senegal’s petroleum minister to open Africa E&P Summit 2020

Mouhamadou Makhtar Cissé, Senegal’s minister of petroleum and energy, will open the Africa E&P Summit, to be held from 20-21 May in IET London: Savoy Place, with a ministerial keynote address on Africa’s energy future

The minister will be accompanied by a delegation from the national oil company of Senegal, Petrosen, to update the industry on Senegal’s first offshore licence round which will be on-going.

The minister will highlight oil and gas exploration opportunities that exist in Senegal, aided by a stable fiscal regime and an attractive investment climate.

Joseph Medou, director of Petrosen, will address the audience within the government and NOC showcase session on the MSGBC Basin Round of 12 offshore exploration blocks and answer questions from the audience on the prospectivity of what is on offer as well as fiscal terms and regulatory framework.

The MSGBC Basin is well established on Africa’s oil and gas map. The Basin encompasses the Sangomar field – the largest global discovery of 2014, the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim project - the largest gas discovery of 2015 (25 tcf) and the Yakaar-1 gas well - the largest global discovery of 2017.

Located offshore Senegal and 100km off the Dakar Peninsula, this leaves a vast area under-explored which will be of major interest to oil majors and independents with an appetite for growth. In 2020, CNOOC and Svenska/ FAR will spud two new wells south of Senegal in AGC and Guinea-Bissau; Wolverine-1 and the Atum and/or Anchova prospects respectively which the industry will be watching very closely.

Gayle Meikle, CEO of Frontier, said, “The Africa E&P Summit 2020 is opened by Senegal’s minister of petroleum and energy, Mouhamadou Makhtar Cissé as this is one of the most exciting regions for oil exploration on the continent at this time.”

“We look forward to welcoming the minister to London and ensuring that Senegal has the best opportunity to promote their acreage and meet with investors,” Meikle added.
