Total has announced that it will start production on the US$10bn deepwater oilfields in Angola by 2014
The French oil and gas firm will aim to produce 160,000 bpd over the next 20 years from the four deepwater fields, situated northwest of the capital Luanda, which it started developing in 2010.
Oil industry sources have claimed that the project would significantly boost production from Angola, which is already Africa’s second largest oil producer after Nigeria.
Total currently produces one-third of Angola’s 1.8mn bpd output, sources added.
Jean-Michel Lavergne, chief of the firm’s subsidiary in Angola, said, “Total produces over 600,000 bpd in Angola and this figure will increase even more next year when the project starts production.”
