Tap Oil has announced that Ghana’s Ministry of Energy and Petroleum has granted it a six-month extension with respect to Starfish-1 oil exploration well in the Offshore Accra Contract Area
The initial exploration period will now end on 23 March 2014 with the extension providing more time for a thorough review of the well.
Drilling of the Starfish-1 well commenced in June 2013 and logs indicate that the primary and secondary targets were water bearing sands.
According to Tap Oil, there is possible evidence of residual oil in the primary and secondary targets which may provide support for an active petroleum system in the block.
The well was plugged and abandoned as planned on 12 July 2013.
The operator is Ophir Energy and the joint venture partner is Rialto Energy. Ophir Energy is currently working on the existing lead and prospect inventory.
