The partners had initially encountered thick footages of gas in Pweza-1 and Chewa-1.
“The well, drilled by the Deepsea Stavanger, encountered a high quality gas bearing reservoir which is associated with a distinctive seismic anomaly”, the companies said in a statement. The Deepsea Stavanger will now move back to the Chewa location in Block 4 to side-track and appraise the earlier announced Chewa-1 discovery and deepen the well to test older reservoir objectives.
The Chaza-1 well is operated by Ophir (40 per cent) on behalf of a joint venture with BG (60 per cent).
The partners are currently completing the acquisition of approximately 5,000 sq km of additional 3D.
