Cooper Energy has secured a drilling rig from Grup Servicii Petroliere (GSP) for its Hammamet West-3 well located on the Bargou exploration permit, offshore Tunisia
As operator of the Bargou joint venture, Cooper signed a letter of intent with Romanian company, GSP, for the use of the GSP Jupiter jackup rig.
Australian company, Cooper, said the rig will be used to drill a well which is scheduled to spud in December 2012
However, this is dependent on when the rig is released from its current commitments and could mean that drilling might not start until March 2013.
The Hammamet West-3 well is being drilled to further assess the oil resources within the Abiod formation.
The well will be drilled to penetrate the reservoir with a slightly deviated pilot hole and a highly deviated wellbore will then be drilled and tested to confirm the oil productivity of the formation.
The Birsa sandstone at the Hammamet West-3 will also be drilled.
The results of the two wells indicate the presence of a gross oil column of at least 190 metres in the Abiod Formation within the West Hammamet structure.
Cooper operates the permit with a 30 per cent interest while Dragon Oil and Jacka Resources hold a 55 per cent and 15 per cent stake respectively.
