Cairn Energy has begun drilling a second well offshore Senegal following its recent discovery in October 2014
The findings of Cairn Energy’s 40 per cent owned FAN-1 well earlier this month indicated a discovery of between 250mn and 2.5bn barrels of oil in place. It had unearthed 29 metres of oil bearing reservoir and encountered more than 500 metres of gross oil bearing intervals.
The second well SNE-1 is also 40 per cent owned by Cairn Energy.
Simon Thomson, chief executive of Cairn Energy, said, “We have a large acreage position and are in the process of evaluating the initial well information and determining potential follow up activity, which we are currently targeting for 2015.”
Cairn Energy also told investors that drilling will begin for an exploration well in December for Q4 2014 on the Cap Boujdour area, offshore Morocco. The company has a 20 per cent stake in this venture.
