Drilled by Diamond Offshore's Ocean Valiant semisub in a water depth of 453 m, Begonia-1 hit hydrocarbons in reservoir of Miocene age and produced more than 6000 bopd of high quality 36° API oil during a production test.
Total and its partner, State-run Sonangol, had earlier hit oil on the block with the Gardenia-1 well.
Sonangol is the block's concessionaire, with a 30% interest, while Total operates Block 17/06 with a 30% stake. Other partners include Sinopec, Acrep, Falcon Oil and Partex Oil & Gas.
FRENCH GIANT TOTAL has hit oil with the Begonia-1 well, the second successful probe drilled in Block 17/06 in Angola's deep-water play.
