The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has recorded a 300,000 bpd increase in crude oil production to the current 2.7mn bpd from the last-recorded rate of 2.4mn
NNPC group managing director engineer Andrew La'ah Yakubu said, “We have recorded an all time high of 2.7mn barrels. This has never been recorded before."
Yakubu commended the Nigerian government’s recently-implemented security measures in the oil-rich Niger Delta as the cause for more positive oil yields.
Having recently restored the Aba depot in Nigeria’s Abia state, following a collaboration with the state government, the state-owned NNPC is hoping to reach a similar arrangement with nearby Benue state in order to resurrect the Makurdi depot, according to Yakubu.
"We have not had any negative report from Enugu to Makurdi pipelines and as soon as we do our integrity check and it is okay, we will commence supply to the Makurdi depot," Yakubu explained.
Furthermore, during President Jonathon Goodluck’s visit to the Caribbean island, Nigeria and Jamaica have re-opened discussions regarding the development of a joint oil facility.
