Anadarko Petroleum has put up part of its stake in a Mozambique gas field for sale, shortly after Indian billionaire, Venugopal Dhoot, also sought to divest a 10 per cent stake in the field
US-based oil and gas explorer Anadarko will sell 10 per cent of its 36.5 per cent stake in the Rovuma-1 offshore gas field in Mozambique. Dhoot is also looking to sell his 10 per cent stake and the sale could be worth a total of US$4.5bn, according to Reuters.
PetroChina and Exxon Mobil have been listed among the companies that will bid for the stake. Royal Dutch Shell may also take part in the bidding process.
First-round bids will take place on 14 March 2013 after an information memorandum on the sale was sent to potential bidders in early February.
Anadarko has been the operator of Rovuna-1, and other stakeholders include Japan’s Mitsui with 20 per cent, Bharat Petroleum (a unit of Dhoot's Videocon Industries) with 10 per cent and Thailand’s PTT Exploration & Production with 8.5 per cent. The remaining 15 per cent participating interest is currently held by the national oil company of Mozambique, Empressa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos EP.
