French multinational Total and Algeria’s state-owned oil and gas company Sonatrach have signed an agreement to renew their partnership in the field of LNG
This agreement will extend existing supply contracts for three additional years to provide the French market with two million tonnes of Algerian LNG per annum, primarily through the Fos Cavaou LNG terminal.
The agreement covers the Sonatrach sub-charter of a Total LNG tanker.
Laurent Vivier, president gas of Total, said, “This agreement is part of the long history of cooperation between Total and Sonatrach.
“Thanks to the quality of our relationship, we were able to conclude it in an extremely volatile market environment. This new contract further enhances the flexibility of Total’s LNG portfolio and strengthens our position as a major partner of Sonatrach.”
For nearly 70 years, Total has been a historic player in Algeria’s energy sector. The group is active in oil and gas exploration and production (participating interests in the TFT II and Timimoun gas fields and the Berkine basin oil fields), as well as in LNG through supply contracts with Sonatrach.
Additionally, Total and Sonatrach have launched engineering studies in Western Algeria for a petrochemical project.
