US-based exploration firm Vaalco Energy has discovered oil at its Etame 10-H well located on the Etame Marin Block, offshore Gabon

According to the company, “Etame 10-H was drilled using Transocean's Constellation II jack-up rig to a measured depth of 3,144 metres. It encountered more than 180 metres of reservoir within an oil-bearing portion of the Gamba sand.

“Upon completion, Vaalco Energy tested the horizontal development well at the rate of approximately 3,200 bpd on a gross basis with small amount of water and zero hydrogen sulfide.”

The well is currently producing around 3,000 bpd of oil, added the company.

Steve Guidry, CEO of Vaalco Energy, said, “We are pleased with the results from the Etame 10-H well and we are eager to continue our current drilling programme offshore Gabon. The company has produced more than 85mn barrels of oil from the Etame Marin Block and we are well-positioned to continue to deliver a growing production profile through most of 2015.”

Vaalco Energy also plans to carry out an extended well test of the Etame 8-H well, which was drilled 2014, to identify and quantify the presence of hydrogen sulfide, revealed Guidry.
