The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has confirmed that members of the Joint Military Task Force (JTF) have destroyed three illegal oil refinery sites in the Niger Delta region

In an interview with NAN, Major Abubakar Abdullahi confirmed that JTF troops from the Nigerian Naval ship raided two illegal refineries in Warri South, with 1,750 tons of suspected stolen crude oil and 170 tons of illegally refined oil seized. Additionally, JTF troops destroyed a large illegal refinery at Alakiri, Rivers State.

Major Abdullahi told NAN that thieves set fire to parts of their bunkering camp but troops extinguished the fire and then destroyed the operation.

The raids were part of Operation Delta Safe, aimed at securing the area against illegal oil bunkering. Major Abdullahi has urged members of the public to support ODS activities and to report any information that may lead to further raids and the securing of Nigerian oil facilities.

“We are here to protect oil and gas infrastructure, deter and prevent sea robbery, to stop crude oil theft and other crimes within the joint area of operation that could impact negatively on economic activities in the Niger Delta,” said Major Abdullahi
