Africa’s energy leaders discuss gas projects in Casablanca

(Image source: EnergyNet)The ‘Gas Options: North & West Africa’ conference took place in Casablanca from 29-30 November 2017, focusing on opportunities for investment in gas infrastructure, project pipelines and implementation strategies

The conference discussed the project updates in North and West Africa and opportunities for collaboration between regions to maximise the potential of the vast gas markets and accelerate economic development.

The sessions focused on Morocco’s Gas to Power programme, the role of LNG in facilitating gas development, opportunities for the implementation of IPP Procurement Programmes and regional case studies looking at the unique gas environments of Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Nigeria and Morocco.

Some of the distinguished speakers included Patrick Eyogo Edzang, minister of water and energy in Gabon, Abderrahim El Hafidi, secretary general of the ministry of energy, mines and sustainable development in Morocco and acting director general of the National Office for Electricity and Potable Water (ONEE) and Amina Benkhadra, director general of National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM).

William Owuraku Aidoo, deputy minister for power in Ghana, provided a presentation on the country’s gas sector and from Nigeria insights were given by Ibrahim A Bagudu (FNIMechE), general manager for planning and business development in Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Private sector companies who attended the conference included Siemens, Clarke Energy, ENGIE, White & Case, Shell, Cheniere, Total, Wärtsilä Energy Solutions, Jacobs Engineering & Karpowership and etc. and shared their knowledge of the industry.
