"Officials of CNPC have met thrice since August 2010 with the top management of Cotco [Cameroon Oil Transport Co.]," said a senior official in the Cameroon-based Pipeline Pilot Steering and Monitoring Committee, which oversees the pipeline.
"It is difficult to say how this will work...only Cotco stands a better chance to know what steps to take," the official said on condition of anonymity.
CNPC, which began oil and gas exploration in Chad in 2003, owns permits to prospect in seven oil-expectant basins there.
The Chad-Cameroon pipeline is operated by Exxon Mobil Corp and Chevron Corp in partnership with Malaysia's Petroliam Nasional Bhd, or Petronas.
The 1,080-km pipeline runs from Chad's southern oil fields of Doba to the southern Cameroonian Atlantic coastal town of Kribi.
